The ZIRKON® DIS Total sensor measures total chlorine: the process-relevant chlorine sum that corresponds to free chlorine plus combined chlorine—including inorganic and organic chloramines and other chlorinated species that count toward the total-chlorine parameter in your application. In practical terms, it answers what is there as oxidant inventory including by-products, not only the free-chlorine slice.
By contrast, ZIRKON® DIS (free chlorine) is aligned with free oxidants for the configured parameter (for example free chlorine, and where applicable other free oxidants per instrument setup). Regulations often still refer to free chlorine; total and free can be monitored side by side when both views are useful.
The total-chlorine value is a single combined reading: the sensor does not separately report individual chloramine species or every organic chlorine compound by name—it reports the total-chlorine quantity you validate against a correctly chosen reference method
