Short guide for correct DIS (free chlorine / disinfectant) calibration in daily operation on legacy Krypton® Multi and Krypton® DIS systems, including Krypton® DIS (Total) where the same on-site reference workflow applies.
Overview
For a trustworthy DIS reading, calibrate on site against a reference. The usual reference is a photometric DPD measurement on the same water sample that reaches the sensor during stable operation.
- Calibration type: on-site reference calibration
- Reference method: DPD colorimetric measurement
- Use photometric DPD procedures only (not visual-only estimation)
| Topic | Krypton® Multi | Krypton® DIS / DIS (Total) |
|---|---|---|
| Typical sampling point | Sample from the sampling reference valve on the Argon StabiFlow® assembly while sample flow to the sensor is stable (often labelled on mounting diagrams). | Sample from the assembly sampling / reference valve; ensure flow matches normal operation. |
| Flow before calibration | Resolve any “Digital input 1 (no water)” / flow alarms first; keep flow within specification (~30 L/h regulated sample path). | Same hydraulic principle: stable regulated flow through the StabiFlow®; fix low-flow messages before calibrating. |
| Calibration menu | Main menu > Cal > Cal DIS (wording may show Menu on some firmware builds). | |
Before you calibrate
- Water chemistry (temperature, conductivity, pH) should match normal operation.
- Clean or maintain the DIS sensor first if response is sluggish or fouled (see cleaning articles below).
- After ASR® cleaning cycles, wait until measurement has stabilized before calibrating (typically 15–30 minutes after cleaning ends).
- Use fresh DPD reagents and follow the photometer manufacturer instructions.

Procedure (Multi and DIS)
- Take a representative sample from the sampling reference valve while the analyzer is in normal flow.
- Run the DPD photometric reference test on that sample and note the result in the correct unit (for example mg/L or ppm as used on site).
- Open Main menu > Cal > Cal DIS.
- Enter the DPD reference value when prompted; confirm with OK and save per display prompts.
- Verify that the live reading matches expectations after stabilization; repeat only if procedure or sampling was faulty.
Multi only: If several disinfectant channels are installed, select the channel that matches your sensor position (for example DIS 1) before accepting calibration data.
DIS (Total): Use the same menu path; reference chemistry must match your certificate range for total chlorine.
